01Start beside the window
Place your cup or subject beside a window rather than directly in front of a bright one. Light coming from the side helps show the shape of a face, a cup and the texture of a table. Move the subject until the shadows feel right.
02Watch the brightest part of the frame
A white cup or a bright window can lose detail. Check these areas in the preview and reduce exposure if the camera controls allow it. If the face becomes too dark, change your position or move the subject closer to the window.
03Compare color on familiar objects
Choose a film in Rolens and look at skin, white ceramics and the wood of the table. Compare a warmer and a more neutral option without moving the phone. Select the one that fits the atmosphere, then keep it for the series.
04Tell the visit in three photographs
Photograph the room, your drink and one small detail such as a hand or a folded menu. Keep the lens choice consistent until you have the series. Check the saved images before trying stronger effects. Ask permission before photographing other guests.
Try it on your next walk.
